EIGHT OF OUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY LAUNCHES
December 1, 2016
The 2016 holiday season has commenced, and with it a handful of campaigns and activations in the retail world and beyond. To get you in the holiday spirit, we have put together a list of our 8 favorite launches in NYC and LA. We challenge you to check out as many as you can!
You may have heard of wearable camera-glasses in the past with Pivothead and Google Glasses, but never quite like this. Snap Inc., the creator of the beloved social media photo and video sharing app, Snapchat, has created the latest wearable-tech craze: “spectacles.” These fashionably funky glasses can record up to 10 second videos and upload them directly to your Snapchat memories through bluetooth. This new version of first-person digital perspective sells for $129 at a NYC pop-up shop on 59th Street, as well as in bright yellow pop-up dispensers, dubbed “SnapBots,” which change locations throughout the world every 48 hours. If you don’t feel like waiting hours for the chance of snatching a pair, you can find them on eBay for upwards of $1000 resale. Read more about the amazingness of SnapBots! Address: 5 E. 59th Street, New York, NY 10022. Open Through NYE.
STORY is always known for bringing fun and exciting things to the shopping table, and this holiday season they’re back again with their annual Home For The Holidays editorialized gift guide. This year, they are teaming up with Microsoft Surface to create a one-stop shop filled with over 2,000 gifts from over 200 small businesses and brands. The mid-century modern, southwestern architecture style “home,” directed by interior designer Jason Bell, is brought to life with partnerships and events occurring throughout the two month-long story. Sophia Amoruso, the HBIC from Nasty Gal, curated an exclusive gift collection for powerful women on the go; Martha Stewart will be paying a visit to sign her latest book; Iris Apfel will be hosting a jewelry trunk show; and every Saturday there will be an array of award-winning NYC food trucks parked outside to fuel holiday shoppers. Open November 2 - December 31 at 144 10th Ave. Hours: Monday-Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 11am-8pm; Thursdays 11am-9pm; Sundays 11am-7pm.
The latest cosmetics craze amongst millennials has most definitely been Kylie Jenner’s makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics. First launched earlier this year and originally only sold on her website, the sister of famed Kim Kardashian will now be launching her renowned lip and eye products physically in-store at her Topanga Westfield Mall pop-up shop. Although we aren’t sure what quite to expect just yet, as she is a secretive businesswoman (to say the least), we can presume that fans will be in for a treat upon visiting her pop-up -- that is, if the line is short enough for you to even step inside. Based on her constant surprises since the brand’s creation, we are crossing our fingers that even more new and exciting things come paired with her first brick-and-mortar. Launching December 9, while supplies last. Topanga Westfield Mall in Canoga Park, CA. Hours: Monday-Friday 10am-9pm; Saturday and Sunday 9am-9pm or later.
Repeatedly known for their eye-catching store windows, Barneys New York has launched their holiday 2016 Love Peace Joy project. This project dedicates the 2016 holiday windows to exactly those three things, because the retailer believes that this world needs more of each. With the goal of supporting two charitable organizations (Amy Schumer and Leesa Evans’ STYLE FUND and the Russell Westbrook Why Not Foundation), Barneys New York is encouraging followers to take a photo of themselves expressing love, peace, or joy and posting it on social media with the hashtag #LovePeaceJoyProject. Whether by creating a heart for love with their hands, sticking two fingers up in a peace sign, or jumping in the air for joy, photos will provide customers with an opportunity to recreate the meaning of these three important ideas. For each post, the Barneys New York Foundation will donate $5 to the project, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the two charities. Spread your own love, peace, and joy on social media and encourage others to do the same this holiday season! Peace, Love, and Joy Window Displays at Barneys New York, Downtown 101 7th Ave New York, NY and Barneys New York, Madison Ave 660 Madison Ave, New York, NY. Hours: 10am-8pm.
Gigi New York, the predominantly online handbag and accessories brand is currently running their first sole pop-up in the Meatpacking neighborhood of Manhattan. First launched in September with a short term plan, the pop-up got so much traffic that the brand has announced their extension through the holiday season. Customers can shop a variety of premium leather goods - for both men and women - perfect for finding holiday gifts for everyone on your list. Featuring in-store personalization every Thursday and Saturday, an artistic aesthetic, and the perfect photo wall to capture you with your new favorite bag, the Gigi New York pop-up is a go-to this shopping season. Open now until December 27th at 875 Washington Street. Hours: Monday-Saturday 11am-7pm; Sundays 12pm-6pm.
Unique Markets is hosting their annual LA market this holiday season. Originally launched in 2008, creators imagined a modernized large-scale pop-up and all the success it’s seen has resulted in adding new locations every year. Over the years, the markets have continuously hosted and supported hundreds of small businesses in local areas. With over 350 independent designers/artists, a roster of top DJs, complimentary drinks, DIY projects, free photo booth fun, lounges, a kids play area, and more, this market should definitely be at the top of your shopping destination list (and maybe even the only one you need on that list). Open December 3-4 at The 13th Floor at California Market Center, Los Angeles, California. $15 admission online or at the door. Buy tickets here.
The internet search engine Google has opened a pop-up shop in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan -- but you can’t buy anything. Yep, you read that right. Google’s pop-up is purely knowledge-based so that visitors can become more acquainted with the brand’s devices like Pixel, Google Home, and Daydream VR. The space is organized by product, and visitors can engage in classes taught by Google experts in order to experience the high-tech qualities of each product first hand, like Pixel’s low-lighting photography capabilities and Daydream’s immersive virtual reality. If you want to spark your creative and techie interests simultaneously, be sure you pay a visit to this pop-up. Open now at 96 Spring Street, New York, NY. Hours: 10am-8pm.
The care-free lingerie and apparel brand, Aerie, is opening a pop-up shop in SoHo this holiday season. On opening day, they will have festivities occurring all day long, including yoga, info sessions, meet and greets, DIY classes, manicures, and more while shopping their fun variety of bras, underwear, loungewear, and everyday apparel. You can get free gift wrapping with a $5 donation to the National Eating Disorders Association, free cozy socks and an #AerieReal tote with any purchase, the chance to win a $250 shopping party, and even more special offers. With all these awesome treats, why wouldn’t you go? Opening December 10 at 72 Spring Street, New York, NY. Hours: 10am-9pm.
